Backlog Required Before Hiring a Crew

See how many weeks of booked backlog actually justify committing to a new crew, and what your current overflow demand is worth.

Your backlog supports hiring nowThreshold cleared
Recommended threshold5 weeks
Implied overflow revenue$14,424
How we got here
  1. Recommended threshold = patience + safety margin = 3 + 2 = 5 weeks
  2. Overflow weeks = max(0, backlog - patience) = max(0, 6 - 3) = 3
  3. Implied overflow revenue = overflow weeks × weekly revenue × crews = 3 × $4,808 × 1 = $14,424

Methodology

Formula: recommended threshold = customer patience threshold + safety margin. Overflow weeks = backlog beyond the patience threshold. Implied overflow revenue = overflow weeks × weekly revenue per crew × number of crews.

Assumption: the customer patience threshold (default 3 weeks) is an editable assumption, not a researched industry constant, it varies enormously by trade and by whether the work is emergency/service or planned/installation.

Limitation: this measures currently booked backlog, not future pipeline. For a growth plan based on expected new sales rather than already-booked jobs, see Required Sales Pipeline Before Adding a Crew.
