Working Capital Required for a New Crew
Find the cash a new crew actually needs during ramp-up, not just its break-even payback period.
How we got here
- Full monthly crew cost = (labor + overhead) / 12 = $12,333.33
- Revenue during ramp = expected revenue × ramp % / 12 = $10,000 / month
- Cash gap = monthly crew cost - (revenue during ramp × margin) = $8,093.33 / month
- Total working capital = fixed startup + (cash gap × ramp months) = $35,000 + ($8,093.33 × 6) = $83,560

Methodology
Formula: full monthly crew cost = (annual labor + incremental overhead) / 12. Cash gap per month = full monthly crew cost - (ramp-period revenue × contribution margin), floored at zero. Total working capital = fixed startup cost + (cash gap × ramp months).
Assumption: a linear revenue ramp is assumed: revenue during the ramp period averages to a percentage of full run-rate (default 50%, i.e. ramping evenly from zero to full over the ramp period). Editable if your ramp is expected to be faster or slower.
Limitation: this is a ramp-period cash estimate, not a full annual cash-flow forecast. It does not replace whole-business operating reserve planning.
